PUZZLE 1 (ALFRED’S ALIAS) SMALL HINT

Celebrate the author, the writer of many books. But one in particular, is the one where you should look. Transcribe the title precisely, in the necessary field, and follow each tricky letter, the alias is revealed.

PUZZLE 1 (ALFRED’S ALIAS) BIG HINT)

There’s one book title that you need, it’s letters you carefully heed. Write them in the schematic squares, follow the lines and symbols beware. Reach the bottom ovals and see, the alias of the man you seek.

PUZZLE 1 (ALFRED’S ALIAS) ANSWER

The Ruler’s Recent Attire refers to The Emperor’s New Clothes seen in the magazine advertisement. Write those letters in the rectangles at the top of the page. Follow the lines and obey the schematic symbols to arrive at Chester “Stomper” Wheeler.

PUZZLE 2 (DAY OF BIRTH) EASTER EGG

A clue for you, at this stage of the game? No need! Just read: the columnist’s name.

PUZZLE 2 (DAY OF BIRTH) SMALL HINT

The envelope here is the key, the day’s symbol is “a” you see. Note where that symbol appears, that page gives flight to your fears.

PUZZLE 2 (DAY OF BIRTH) BIG HINT

A feather in your package looks, like something that you’ve read in books, or articles in magazines, determine which type and the answer is seen.

PUZZLE 2 (DAY OF BIRTH) ANSWER

The envelope reveals that the day of birth is identified by the letter “a” which is found at the top of the page “On Feathers”. The article lists many kinds of feathers, but the feather of relevance is found in your package, and only matches Number 5 in the article, therefore, Alfred was born on the 5th day.

PUZZLE 3 (MONTH OF BIRTH) SMALL HINT

The envelope here is, again, an aid, the month’s symbol is “r” hand-made. Note where that symbol is located, at the end of a sentence truncated. This page is where you will find, the answer to the question in your mind.

PUZZLE 3 (MONTH OF BIRTH) BIG HINT

Start with the document titled “Last Will” and read carefully right up until, section 12 which does describe, the steps you take and the answer you’ll find. (Note “Powers of my Executor” to avoid any troubling non sequiturs.)

PUZZLE 3 (MONTH OF BIRTH) ANSWER

The only latin phrase in the game is “Cogito Ergo Sum A” wherein the “A” has been mysteriously added to the traditional phrase. Then notice the numbering system in the will. Ascribe a number value to each letter in the latin phrase (where 14 would equal “A”, 12 equals “U” etc.) and you will find the word “AUGUST”, which is the month of birth.

PUZZLE 4 (YEAR OF BIRTH) SMALL HINT

Once more the envelope is your aid, locate the symbol “f” hand-made. The year of Alfred’s birth is found, without much tricks, just look around! A letter from the editor does describe, the way he chose the year to hide.

PUZZLE 4 (YEAR OF BIRTH) BIG HINT

Yes “look” around you must and see, the days in (whose?) gaze (what does “J” mean?). Date issued, no puzzle there, and amount to pay is easy fare.

PUZZLE 4 (YEAR OF BIRTH) ANSWER

The 12 letters around the magazine cover refer to months, so, following the gaze of Hans Christian Andersen on the cover illustration, take the number of days in July (31) and multiply it by date issued (4) and then take that sum and multiply it by amount to pay (15) to get 1860, the year of his birth.

PUZZLE 5 (MONTH OF DEATH) SMALL HINT

When it comes to his death, the map is your friend. All you need is on the map’s back, to discover about his end.

PUZZLE 5 (MONTH OF DEATH) BIG HINT

See some numbers, coordinates, and corresponding lines. Symbols say to mirror, or fold, or both and you’ll be fine.

PUZZLE 5 (MONTH OF DEATH) ANSWER

Follow the 5 instructions to get 5 letters. For the first letter, fold the map along the line at 17 and ⅗ and then mirror the symbol to get an “M”. Do this for all 5 letters and deduce MARCH as the month of death.

PUZZLE 6 (DAY OF DEATH) SMALL HINT

A hint on this one? Puzzlers… please! In yourself you must believe!

PUZZLE 6 (DAY OF DEATH) BIG HINT

If you really must insist, I will grant your puzzler’s wish. All you need is “count the ships!”

PUZZLE 6 (DAY OF DEATH) ANSWER

Truly, there is no trickery to this puzzle: count the ships on the map and get “3” as the day of death.

PUZZLE 7 (YEAR OF DEATH) SMALL HINT

Again we turn to the back of the map, noticing a portion resembling a graph. 4 digits in his death year, see placeholders and now you’re near.

PUZZLE 7 (YEAR OF DEATH) BIG HINT

1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th, refer to numbers west and north. Notice the axis labels and, get close to finding this mysterious man.

PUZZLE 7 (YEAR OF DEATH) ANSWER

The dotted lines mimic the pattern of the map coordinate system. Note the numbers on the map, with each place value corresponding to a shaded rectangle with the exception of the 4 digits you need: 1 (1st), 9 (2nd), 1 (3rd), 4 (4th) = 1914. Still not clear? See a helpful image here.

PUZZLE 8 (HELP SVETLANA) SMALL HINT

Lines are blanks, each blank the same. This is some sort of contrived word game.

PUZZLE 8 (HELP SVETLANA) BIG HINT

Find one word to finish the name, the word in each blank is the same. Next: type it’s 4 letters to your friend, is this harried pursuit nearing its end?

PUZZLE 8 (HELP SVETLANA) ANSWER

One word that completes each part of “Less R Table” is TIME. “Timeless, timer, timetable”. Text TIME to Svetlana and see what she thinks.

PUZZLE 9 (HELP JJ) SMALL HINT

The code to this door isn’t based on luck! Without your friend Svetlana, Cousin would be stuck. Use the symbols from the image sent, to find out where this Hunter went!

PUZZLE 9 (HELP JJ) BIG HINT

Each gravestone character crosses buttons, three - push those bottons on the door to be free.

PUZZLE 9 (HELP JJ) ANSWER

Note the shape of the bottom 3 letters/symbols (and dots/buttons within) on the tombstone image and press the buttons on the door as if you were drawing each letter, starting from left to right. Note the directional arrows (serifs) in each letter to verify the direction of buttons pressed. Using a phone dial pad as reference, the sequence to push the buttons in is: 159729713.
